Since the existing system can already be used, even if in limited form, we've agreed that we should really try to clean up what's currently there so that end users can install the whole thing without undue pain. For that to happen, we've outlined the following little todo list for a pre-alpha release:

  • DONE remove ezsetup: this is currently not really needed, and can cause people problems (even if they have better manners than me in complaining we still want to be easy on new users :).
  • package lxml snapshot: since we are using SVN code, it will be easier for users if we provide a static tarball of the current code. SVN checkouts are OK with advanced users, but we want to lower the barrier as much as possible.
  • Provide win32 binaries (Toni, Tzanko, can any of you help here?)
  • Check READMEs: make sure they provide full, accurate install instructions.
  • Double-check the examples, make sure they all actually run.
  • Make a little install page with all the necessary links. This can be the same README included in the distribution: if we use wiki formatting, the same document can be used for both purposes.
